Eleven Plus Subjects
The Eleven Plus exam for state grammar schools will, depending on the area you live in, consist of papers in any of up to four different disciplines: Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English and Maths.
In this area of the site you will find descriptions and examples of the type of content that your child may face in the tests and you can also explore the useful resources we have gathered together to help you support and prepare your child for each or all of these subjects.

Verbal Reasoning
Verbal reasoning (VR) is almost universally used as one of the test papers in the 11+. It is believed to be an effective way of testing a child’s potential, not just learned ability.
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Non-verbal reasoning (NVR) questions are designed to test a child’s ability to work out problems regardless of their knowledge of English. The questions require students to work out similarities in sequences of shapes or codes involving abstract figures.
