The Schools Admissions Code, that came into effect in 2012, stated that by law, schools must take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of tests before the closing deadline for the Common Application form (CAF) on October 31st.
There are three Local Authorities in Yorkshire with Grammar Schools within their boundaries: Calderdale (two grammar schools), Kirklees (one grammar school) and North Yorkshire (three grammar schools).

Calderdale Grammar Schools Admissions Information for September 2022 Entry
Admissions to the two Calderdale grammar schools are managed jointly and the admission process is handled by Calderdale Council.

Kirklees Grammar Schools Admissions – Heckmondwike Grammar
Admissions to Heckmondwike Grammar School are managed by Kirklees Council. Heckmondwike Grammar School changed their exam in September 2014 to that of CEM (The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring) by University of Durham. The reason for the changes are to prevent extensive coaching.

North Yorkshire Grammar Schools Admissions Information for September 2022 entry
The three Grammar Schools in North Yorkshire are responsible for their own admissions policy; and the Local Authority manages the admission arrangements on behalf of Ermysted Grammar School and Ripon Grammar School.
Skipton High School administers it’s own selection tests. Children in Skipton and Ripon are automatically entered for the selection test; parents have to write or email to admissions if they do not wish their child to sit the test.

At the beginning of each sections, candidates are given brief instructions. Once a section has been completed, candidates cannot go back to that section. |

Historic Pass Marks
- Cut off scores for Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted’s Grammar School were 220 (2011) 227 (2010) 221 (2009) and 222 (2008). In the event of oversubscription places are allocated by distance.
- Cut off scores for Ripon Grammar School were 210 (2011) 206 (2010) 209 (2009) and 207 (2008)
Provided a child has achieved the required cut-of score, places are then allocated in the following order, with distance from school gates being used in the event of any tie-break:
- Children in care
- Siblings of children living in the school’s catchment area
- Children in living in catchment
- Siblings of children living outside of catchment
- All others
