There are 7 grammar schools in the geographic county of Devon, but there are three different admission authorities involved in the admissions process: Devon County Council, Plymouth & Torbay. There is also a “bilateral” school – The Spires College in Torbay. 

All schools bar one use GL assessment; Colyton Grammar's 11 plus test is supplied by FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise)

TEST TYPESTwo papers of approximately 60 minutes each, multiple choice format, each paper contains several timed sections. There will be a break in between the tests.
The paper tests:
Verbal ability (comprehension, vocabulary and verbal reasoning)
Numerical ability (the ability to solve maths problems)
Non Verbal ability (the ability to see how objects/shapes relate to each other).
In addition there will be a short English paper (20 minutes), usually consists of creative writing (written and marked by the school)

EXAMINERSCEM (Durham University)
PASS MARKCEM design the marking scheme and all marks are standardised according to the age to produce a final score. Places are offered to those who meet the required standard . If more than 155 meet the required standard, places are by rank order of the score. The English paper is marked by the school and is not standardised.

Torbay Grammar Schools

Torquay Boys Grammar, Torquay Girls Grammar, Churston Ferrers Grammar, The Spires College – Admissions Information for entry September 2023

These four schools have the same test and collaborate in the administration of the test. The results are shared between the schools. The Spires College is a bilateral school.
