Trafford 11 Plus
From 2016, the following four schools will be known as the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium (TGSC): Altrincham Grammar for Girls, Sale Grammar, Stretford Grammar, Urmston Grammar. Children can sit only one test. Parents can request the raw scores be shared between the schools. Scores cannot be shared between the schools after the standardisation process. Parents have to apply to one of the four schools to sit the exam and state which schools to share the scores with. Only girls can sit the test at Altrincham Grammar School. It is possible for a child to pass the test for one school and not for another; this is because the raw scores are being compared to a different cohort of children. Each school has it’s own admission policy.

For entry in 2022
The Schools Admissions Code, that came into effect in 2012, stated that by law, schools must take all reasonable steps to inform parents of the outcome of tests before the closing deadline for the Common Application form (CAF) on October 31st.

| TEST TYPES | Verbal ability (tests vocabulary, comprehension, verbal reasoning) Numerical reasoning (tests the ability to solve mathematical problems) Non-verbal reasoning (tests the ability to see how objects relate to each other) Two test papers, approximately 1 hr each, each one containing a mixture of multiple choice questions, divided into smaller timed sections. | TEST SCORES | The qualifying score is 334. This does not guarantee a place as each school has their own admissions policy and will use other criteria for oversubscription. Some of the schools carry out an automatic review of children who attain a score close to the pass mark. The review panel will take into account the score, an invigilator’s report, any special circumstances and supporting evidence. Those who qualify under the Review process will have their score adjusted to 334. Stretford Grammar – children who score 324-333 receive a review Sale Grammar – children who score up to 13 marks below the pass mark Urmston Grammar – children who score 321-333 receive a review In 2016, Urmston Grammar had 1896 applications. Candidates who attained 397 or more are in the top 20. Several hundred achieved the qualifying score 334. The average score for the pupils who qualified was 357. A further 297 attained 321-333 and were reviewed. |
