Choosing an Independent School
The primary purpose of this website is to support parents applying to state grammar schools. However for some parents the alternative to a state grammar will be an independent school. We are therefore providing the following information to assist those parents in researching their school options.
There is a wealth of information on the website of the Independent Schools Council including a searchable database of Independent Schools for both senior and junior age groups.
Another valuable source of information is the Independent Schools Association.
There is also a very active discussion section about Independent Schools on our 11+ Forum
Links to the latest GCSE results, A Level results and League tables for Independent Schools are provided here .
Around 80 percent of the independent schools in the UK – those belonging to the Independent Schools’ Council – are inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).
The remainder are inspected by OFSTED or other inspectorates:
Independent Christian and Muslim schools are inspected by the Bridge Schools Inspectorate.
A small number of other schools are inspected by the School Inspection Service.
